BORO & SASHIKO PLACEMATS

Boro and sashiko Quilts or Placemats Use some of your collection of Japanese fabrics or other scraps to make simple placemats then embellish them with sashiko stitching. These can be very organised or very random, depending on your preference (see photos)

HANDMAKING PAPER USING NATIVE PLANTS

1 Saturday morning - On 21 May from 9:30am-12:30pm

This class has been CANCELLED. Paper comes from plants. Aotearoa has lots of really fibrous plants. So let’s make come paper from our local native plants. Come and learn how to make paper while making a new friend or two and developing a deeper appreciation for native plant resources. No experience necessary just a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get your hands wet! The paper we make takes a few days to dry and then will be posted back.

MENDING YOUR CLOTHES:

OVERLOCKER BASICS/SEWING WITH KNITS

SELF DEFENCE: Krav Maga(Age 15+)

Krav Maga (contact combat) is a self-defence system developed by the Israeli Defence Force. Its application and efficiency in the real world has been proven to be highly effective by law enforcement agencies, protection services, and the military. The 3 hour session will be at an introductory level and will focus on civilian self defence. Unlike the military or police, the main intent for civilian krav maga is to: Minimise harm to oneself, stop the escalation of conflict by defending in a decisive manner, and also by escaping quickly at the very first opportunity

SHIBORI DYEING: Multicoloured

Explore Shibori techniques such as folding, clamping and pole wrapping then learn how to mix fibre reactive dyes to produce multicoloured fabrics for use in quilting or as a background for embroidery. Small items of clothing could also be dyed.
