BORO & SASHIKO PLACEMATS

Boro and sashiko Quilts or Placemats Use some of your collection of Japanese fabrics or other scraps to make simple placemats then embellish them with sashiko stitching. These can be very organised or very random, depending on your preference (see photos)

CHEESE MAKING: Halloumi & Ricotta

THERE IS ONLY 1 PLACE LEFT You make the cheese at this intensely practical DIY 'hands-in' workshops because the key to good cheese making is knowing how the cheese should look and, most importantly, how it should feel at different points in it's creation. During this three hour hands-on workshop, you will be guided through the cheese making process while you make your own Halloumi and Ricotta which you will be able to take home and show off at the end!

DYEING COTTON:

Tutor/Facilitator: Clare Smith
1 Saturday - On 1 August from 9:30am-4pm

Learn how to dye fabric using Procion dyes. This class is mainly aimed at people who want to make small lengths of fabric for quilting or embroidery, but it is also possible to dye children’s T-shirts or other small items of clothing. Learn how to mix dyes and make colour graduations, try scrunch dyeing, basic shibori and tie-dye, multi-coloured dyeing and ice dyeing. Students should end up with approximately 6 metres of dyed fabric or the equivalent in dyed clothing.

Fees: NZ$85 - Plus $25 for materials for tutor

DYEING WOOL & SILK

LEARN TO SEW:

Would love to learn to sew but not sure where to start, and a whole term of courses is not for you? Then this one day course has been designed for you. Come and learn how to use a sewing machine (students may bring their own or use a college Bernina). Work on a selected sewing project (a bag) which will teach you essential skills and leave sewing confident all in one day.

Raranga 1 Day Wananga Intermediate

Minimum experience required (people who have made putiputi) - Kono/Konae. Also for the Experienced weaver - whiri kete or wall hanging Note: All registered students will be contacted by the tutor to discuss what they would like to create, where to harvest harakeke and what type of harakeke needed, preparation of harakeke and tools to be sourced for the day.
