FAMILY TREE: Beginners Guide

This course is for people who are new to genealogy or who need help making progress with their family tree. It will provide practical and theoretical help using a range of New Zealand and overseas records. The course is hands-on, and you will learn how and where to search for people and information. You'll learn how to save your findings on to hand-written pages or a genealogy computer program

LEARN TO SEW:

This course is a perfect opportunity to learn some basic sewing skills. You will learn how to read a pattern, how to cut out fabric, how to thread a sewing machine and change settings, basic sewing skills (straight and curved seams) and hand sewing as you work on constructing a bag. The pattern will be provided by the tutor; you will need to supply fabric and thread (requirement list will be provided). (students may bring their own or use a college Bernina). Work on a selected sewing project (a bag) which will teach you essential skills and leave sewing confident all in one day.

METAL JEWELLERY: Beginner

Making silver rings and things…..learn a range of jewellery making techniques including forming, shaping, soldering, texturing, sawing, filing and finishing. The emphasis is on practical skills leading to finished items of jewellery. The silver for a ring and a bangle is included in the course costs as is copper to practice with, saw blades, solder etc. Silver to make additional items can be purchased at a reasonable price. All tools are provided. No previous experience necessary. We will be working with hot metal and tools so workshop clothing and covering footwear please; no open shoes, slides, sandals or jandals allowed. This is for your safety in the workshop.

METAL JEWELLERY: Stone Setting Workshop

This class will now not be offered till 2021. Stone setting is one of the most fun things you can do in a jewellery workshop – it’s a little bit magic, a little bit precision and one of the best ways to grow your skills. This is a one-day class where your creativity and all the techniques you learnt previously come together. We will be making a stone setting, soldering this on a ring and wearing it home. The silver for a ring and a stone setting is included in the course costs as are stones to choose from, copper to practice with, saw blades, solder etc. All tools are provided.

PATCHWORK: Big & Bold Quilt

PATCHWORK: California Roll Quilt

In this one day class you will finally be able to turn your cherished Jelly Roll into a quilt top. This is an ideal class for a beginner, as well as for the more experienced quilter. If you don’t have a jelly roll you can just cut 2½” strips from your stash.

PATCHWORK: Placemats & Napkins

A great way to liven up your meal times and cut into those large scale prints we love to buy. These placemats are reversible so coordinate the backing fabric with the front. If you decide to add napkins you could use your placemat fabric for colour inspiration. You will leave the class with your placemats and napkins complete.
