Come to a friendly group and learn how to say and write your name, address and phone number; answer the telephone clearly; make appointments; read simple English and chat to your friends and work mates in clear basic Kiwi English. Conversational English for those who feel confident at reading and writing. The focus is on learning pronunciation & meaning in a NZ context so that you will gain NZ cultural intelligence to complement your English language skills. Additional written and comprehension support can be given if requested by class members. Emphasis is placed on topical NZ cultural events so that you may gain confidence and become part of your community.

Raranga 1 Day Wananga Intermediate (August)

1 Saturday - On 25 August from 9am-5pm

Minimum experience required (people who have made putiputi) - Kono/Konae. Also for the Experienced weaver - whiri kete or wall hanging Note: All registered students will be contacted by the tutor to discuss what they would like to create, where to harvest harakeke and what type of harakeke needed, preparation of harakeke and tools to be sourced for the day.

Raranga: Creating Taonga with Harakeke (Beginner)

8 Monday nights - Starts 15 October from 7-9pm

Learn how to harvest and prepare Harakeke (flax), including kohua (boiling), weave putiputi a place mat and a wall hanging while using traditional techniques and methods, including karakia, tikanga and Te reo Maori. This class is great for those with no experience to minimum experience. I believe the most important part of weaving is the preparation and basics, I am privileged to be able to teach you and guide you through your first stages of Raranga. This class is now FULL

Raranga: Creating Taonga with Harakeke (Intermediate)

This class is for those who are experienced at weaving with Harakeke and/or other materials. You must understand the tikanga, reo and how to prepare Harakeke for weaving. Minimum of experience – putiputi, kono and konae. This class is a pathway for those that wish to move on from the beginners class. You will learn how to weave whiri kete and are welcome to inquire about weaving other items. Come along and become one of our Tuakana weavers and 'get your weave on'.
