GENEALOGY IN THE DIGITAL AGE: Next Step

3 Monday nights - Starts 3 September from 7-9pm

This course is for those who have completed the beginner course, or whose skills have progressed beyond the basic steps of births, marriages, and deaths. It is mostly using internet-based resources but we will look at using physical archives and resources, also. It is intended that the course provide practical tuition in using data and setting up paper-based and computer-based family trees. We will look at records from overseas, particularly in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and will touch on genealogical resources in other countries such as Australia, India, Canada, United States of America, and Europe. We will mostly learn about resources that are free to access, but it may be useful to take out free sample subscriptions to commercial sites such as Ancestry and Find My Past. Those with Scottish heritage may choose to purchase credits from Scotland's People.

Musical Keyboard Skills

Orchestra

The Tawa Orchestra is a community orchestra that attracts players of all ages and walks of life. No audition required – minimum standard Grade V. You will learn the dynamics of being part of a full orchestra including rehearsal techniques, sectionals, and performance. The Tawa Orchestra will perform at least 3 concerts throughout the year and may include collaborations with other community groups and visiting artists. New members can join at any time.

Raranga: Creating Taonga with Harakeke (Beginner)

Learn how to harvest and prepare Harakeke (flax), including kohua (boiling), weave putiputi a place mat and a wall hanging while using traditional techniques and methods, including karakia, tikanga and Te reo Maori. This class is great for those with no experience to minimum experience. I believe the most important part of weaving is the preparation and basics, I am privileged to be able to teach you and guide you through your first stages of Raranga.

Singapore’s food is as mixed as the heritage of its people. They all come together at hawkers stalls and street stalls to share. Singapore food is as important as religion and culture. Muslims don’t eat pork and Hindu don’t eat beef so that leaves you with vegetarian being popular. All people come together to share their cuisine and show respect in the food selection so that it is acceptable to all. Malaysian food is influenced by different cultures. From Arab to Chinese. Different parts of region have their different recipes. Such as beef rending. Malaysian food is known to be spicy, the preparation of aromatic spices used makes it unique.
